Lapghan - Afghan (Crocheted)

This pattern is over 35 yrs old. Mom made this afghan for our daughter back in 1972, then for both our sons. Mom also made this afghan for all our neices & nephews over the years, & I {JMSQ} have made it for our children & Grandchildren over the years.

Were re-introducing this wonderful pattern © 2007 for you to enjoy and God Willing make it your family heirloom as well.

We use this pattern to make Afghans (ch 120), Lapghans (ch 70, or 86) , & Baby Blankets (ch 54 or 70) & follow directions below. We added both pockets & ties for giving to senior's and ties for use in wheelchairs, also a foot pocket for them to tuck in their little toes and keep them warm.



Lg. Men's size Lapghan


J hook

Row 1: Ch 86, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in same st. sk next st, *(sc,& 1dc in next st, sk 1 st, sc, & 1 dc in next st) across UNTIL last st, 1 sc in last st ch 2 turn.**

Row 2-96: Sk 1 st, *(1 sc,& 1dc in next st, sk next st, 1 sc,& 1 dc in next st, sk next*) across UNTIL last st, 1 sc ch 2 turn

TRIM: Trim of your choice, I make a delicate sm ruffle trim



NORMAL size Lapghan:


H or J Hook with worsted weight yarn

Small/Medium/Large Sizes

Row 1: Ch 70, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in same st. sk next st, *(sc,& 1dc in next st, sk 1 st, sc, & 1 dc in next st) across UNTIL last st, 1 sc in last st ch 2 turn.**

Row 2-54: Sk 1 st, *(1 sc,& 1dc in next st, sk next st, 1 sc,& 1 dc in next st, sk next*) across UNTIL last st, 1 sc ch 2 turn

TRIM: Trim of your choice, I make a delicate sm ruffle trim



Bottom (Feet) Insert



ch 28, rep instructions for body for a total of 15 rows; fasten off.

Center first row of insert to first row of bottom; pin in place. Bring remainder of first row around sides of insert; pin in place and sew.


Edging

Rnd 1 (WS): Attach with sc, work around in pattern, around entire piece,(3 sc in each corner) join in beg sc, turn. Rnd 2 (RS): Work in either pattern around ~ or~ shell st around, join in beg sc, fasten off.


Pockets (Make 2)

Rep instructions for bottom insert for a total of 9 rows; fasten off.

Edging Rnds 1 & 2: Rep Rnds 1 and 2 of edging for body.

Ties (Make 2)

With white, ch 101, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each rem ch across, fasten off. Tie knot in each end. Fold tie in half; pull fold through lp 5 patterns from side and 2nd row from top; pull ends through lp and pull tight.

  1. Hi Jeanarie and Ron, I hope you do not mind me sending this message. I want to Thank You for posting this lapghan pattern. I made one for my husband to take to his dialysis appointments. It was his favorite and all the other patients wanted to have one just like it. Unfortunately he went to be with our Lord in September. He had the lapghan with him at the hospital.   2. tks for the pattern. I would love to see a pic of the pockets and where and how to postion them on the afghan. I saw a lapghan with pockets with similiar directions, but she didn't how to postition them..what I mean is how far down from the top to sew the pockets on

    I follow the pocket direction, but 9 rows don't seem like enough...
