My Simple Poncho's crocheted - Rhonda

{Created in Honor of our Daughter Rhonda}

J Hook

2 - 8 oz. skeins of yarn


SPECIAL STITCH:
{Corner Sp,- 1 dc in last dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2 , 2 dc in ch 2 sp, 1 dc in first dc from privous row}

Ch 96, join to first ch form a circle, careful not to turn chain.

Row 1- Chain 3 [this counts as your first dc], dc in the next 2 chains [this completes your first block], ch 1 [this completes your first space], *dc in the next three chains, ch 1* around, join with a sl st to top of ch 3

Find the halfway point on the front of the poncho, which will be a ch1 space. Make sure that there are an even number of spaces between it and the corner on the first round from either direction. Use a large safety pin to mark this space.

Row 2: sl st next 2 sts, Ch 3 [counts as 1st dc],2 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 1 sp, 1 dc in (next)first dc from privous row, ch 1 (first corner made) *3 dc, ch 1 in next ch 1 sp *repeat until next corner (16 - 3 dc groups) 1 dc in last dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 1 sp, 1 dc in next dc from privous round ch 1 ( 2nd corner made) *3 dc, ch 1 in next ch 1 sp* join with a sl st to top of ch 3

Row 3: sl st next 2 sts, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in corner, 1 dc in first dc from privous round, ch 1 *Repeat 3 dc ch 1 in next ch 1 sp, to next corner* ( 1 dc in 3rd dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, in center ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc of privous round, ch 1 (corner made) Continue with pattern *, join with a sl st to top of ch 3

REPEAT row 3 for a total of 26 rows

Shell border:
**sl st next 2 sts, ch 4 (counts as trc), 1 trc, ch 1, 7 times in corner sp, 1 trc, ch 1 in next dc, (total 9 trc's & 9 ch 1's - Corner made) *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 1 trc, ch 1 (7 times) in next ch 1 sp, *Repeat to corner, then repeat ** Join & fasten off


NECK BORDERS: 2 choices
1.) Neck Border: Join in any st, *ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in each st around, join *(work 3 or 4 rows of 1 sc in each st around) & fasten off

2.) Cowl Border: Join with a sl st, ch 3, dc in each st around join with a sl st top of ch 3, REPEAT for a total of 6 to 8 rows depending on how high you want your cowl neck line, join & fasten off

1-2-3 Poncho-Shawl crochet - JoAnn Sampson

My daughter is 30 PLUS yrs old now, as has grown up wearing these poncho's as have all my Granddaughters.

These can be made for newborns up to XXXL if wanted, it depends on you and how big you want them (different size yarn & Hooks makes all the difference).

They are great with matching hats as well.

By not sewing (whip-stitch) up the front you can have a wonderful shawl, whip st up the front creates a poncho with a nice collar. Add fringe to set the accent on the bottom of this shawl/Poncho or scallops. You decide.

I pray you enjoy this wonderful Classic as we have over the years. ( Mom started making these back in the "early 1970's", and here it is the end of 2010 and I'm pleased to share this with you)



PATTERN:

1, 2, 3 Shawl/Poncho

(1 sc, 2 ch's, & 3 Dc's - all worked in ch 2 space from previous row)

For adult size: J hook

Ch 5, skip firts 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5 turn.Spip first 2 ch's, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc's, (sc in ch 2 sp of previous row, ch 2, 3 dc all in same space), **ch 5 turn, skip first 2 ch's, work 1 dc in each of next 3 ch's, sc in ch 2 space from previous row, ch 2, 3 dc (ALL in the same space), sc in next ch 2 space, ch 2, 3 dc in same space ** Repeat to end of row

CONTINUE working this pattern until desired length, then you can finish off leaving enough yarn to whip stitch up the front or just finish off.

Great with fringe or scallops

This makes a Beautiful gift for newborns with matching hats & booties

Just use baby yarn or sports yarn with a size F or G hook (I like a G Hook) I don't add fringe for these, I use dainty scallops

H Hook for Preemie's

For 4 ply yarn, ch 70 & follow directions below For baby weight yarn, ch 70, then follow directions below

Blankie's should measure 18" x 18"

H Hook - For full term babies

With 4 ply worsted weight yarn......Looks especially pretty with a varigated yarn.

Crochet 180 stitches loosely (or more to it about 36" x 45")

1st Row: 3 DC in 4th ch from hook. *skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch. Ch 2, 3 DC, in same sc. repeat across from *. ending 1 sc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.

2nd Row: 3 DC in last sc. *in next ch 2 space work 1 sc. ch 2, 3 DC* repeat from * across ending sc in top of ch 3 of previous row. Ch 3, turn. Repeat Row 2 until desired length. DO NOT FINISH OFF!!!!!!!!

This pattern is over 35 yrs old. Mom made this afghan for our daughter back in 1972, then for both our sons. Mom also made this afghan for all our neices & nephews over the years, & I {JMSQ} have made it for our children & Grandchildren over the years.

Were re-introducing this wonderful pattern © 2007 for you to enjoy and God Willing make it your family heirloom as well.

We use this pattern to make Afghans (ch 120), Lapghans (ch 70, or 86) , & Baby Blankets (ch 54 or 70) & follow directions below. We added both pockets & ties for giving to senior's and ties for use in wheelchairs, also a foot pocket for them to tuck in their little toes and keep them warm.

Row 2: ch 2, HDC in next 6 sts, 3 LHDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 2 sts, ATTACH NOSE with HDC through both Nose & Muzzle pieces , HDC in next 2 sts, 2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next2 sts, 3 LHDC in next st, 1 HDC in remaining sts, JOIN with sl st . Cut yarn leaving 3 foot tail for sewing later.. DO NOT WEAVE ENDS YET.
After joining top of nose to muzzle:

Using long tail from tip of nose, sew a mouth for the bear. Stitch nose on one side all the way up, work needle to other side “under” nose piece and stitch nose down at that side. Finish Off.
When attaching muzzle to face DO NOT STUFF. This pattern has been delebratly designed to be used unstuffed, as preemie babies can't have the buldging muzzles


Head Grannie Square:

This square is made in a slightly different to make one corner less pointed for top of the Teddy's head.

Join with sl st in 11th st to the right of top of head.

Teddyghan Pattern:
Material's Needed:

1 Special Head Granny Square- Pattern Below

5 – 6” squares for body (Use your favorite pattern)

3 – half grannies – Pattern Below

NOTE: "Full term Babies"
"H" hook for squares, "G" hook for face pieces

Use 8" or 9" squares, and add 2 rows #2 for head pattern, add 2 more rows for 1/2 Grannie as well, For the eyes , instead of hdc around with black, you dc around.For the ears, add 1 more stitch; And for the muzzle- because your are doing this for a baby you still can't stuff it, so you don't want it to be as big as the muzzle for the full size Bearghans, so you can leave it as written.

** Remember you are making the eyes bigger so the muzzle won't look out of place with the bigger head if you just drop the position by lowering it on the face 1 row

Nose: “F” Hook

LEAVE 3 FOOT STRING FOR SEWING AT “BEGINNING” OF NOSE.

Row 1: ch 3, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 3 turn (3 sts)

Row 2: 2 dc in first st. , 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. , ch 3 turn .( 5 sts)

Row 3: 2 dc in forst st, 1 in each, 2 dc in last st. Finish Off(7 sts)


Muzzle: “F” Or "G" Hook

F - Hook when using Babies Yarn or Sports yarn

G - Hook when using WW yarn

SPECIAL STITCHES:
Long DC (LDC)- Instead of doing a regular DC, you'll go down about 1/2 way into the body of st of privous row and do your LDC in that st

Long HDC (LHDC) - same as LDC only do the stitch with LHDC

With muzzle color, ch 3, 11 dc in 3rd ch from hook, join (12 sts)

Row 1: ch 3, dc in same st. 2 dc in next dc., 3 long dc in next st. 2 dc in each of the next 2 sts. 3 dc in next st. 2 dc in each of nxt 2 sts. 3 long dc in next st. 2 dc in each of next 3 sts. Join with st st in beginning ch 3.

Row 2: ch 2, HDC in next 6 sts, 3 LHDC in next st, 1 HDC in next 2 sts, ATTACH NOSE with HDC through both Nose & Muzzle pieces , HDC in next 2 sts, 2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next2 sts, 3 LHDC in next st, 1 HDC in remaining sts, JOIN with sl st . Cut yarn leaving 3 foot tail for sewing later.. DO NOT WEAVE ENDS YET.
After joining top of nose to muzzle:

Using long tail from tip of nose, sew a mouth for the bear. Stitch nose on one side all the way up, work needle to other side “under” nose piece and stitch nose down at that side. Finish Off.
When attaching muzzle to face DO NOT STUFF. This pattern has been delebratly designed to be used unstuffed, as preemie babies can't have the buldging muzzles

Head Grannie Square:

This square is made in a slightly different to make one corner less pointed for top of the Teddy's head.

Row 1: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1 in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, * (3 dc,ch 1 also in 3rd ch from hook) * Repeat( 3 times), join with slip st to beginning ch 3. (4 groups of 3 dc, & 4 ch 1 spaces)

Row 2: ch 3, dc in next 2 sts (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; dc in each of next 3 sts, (3dc in corner sp); dc in next 3 sts, (2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; dc in each of next 3 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner sp. Join to top of ch 3

Hats for Headstart (Crocheted)

What is Headstart?

Headstart is a ("Goverment funded") pre-school for low-income families.

It's a wonderful way for these children to get ready for school like all the rest of the children around our country and be able to keep up and not let their family's financial hardship keep them down.

Hats for Headstart is a way we can help these children. Every state & county has a headstart program. By making and "Donating" (always FREE of charge ) a hat to headstart you are helping to ensuring that these children are keeping warm durning the long cold winters. Instead of focusing on how cold they are they can focus on what they are learning.

I have a set date in mind for "our" donations. Sometime between Oct. 20th - 25th. We will donate to our local headstart the hat's we've made; (80 of them). Our headstart has 4 classes of 20 children- thats 80 hats.


You can contact your local headstart and find out how many children are in their classes and whip the hats up durning the year so when winter comes, you'll be finished and ready to GIVE cheerfully.


I have several X's & O's patterns available on my Qunique Pattern page (listed below) that I've shared over the years from place settings, to baby sets, May flowers & gift bags. Making up patterns using X's & O's is one of my favorite past times. Below is the one I've come up with for Headstart. I hope you enjoy using this pattern...JMSQ ©



Headstart X's & O's Hat pattern
{Special Stitches X & O Stitch }

ch 3, **sk 1 sts, 1 dc in next st, {to make the next dc go around back of st just made & into the front of prev. st making 1 dc} X st just made ** repeat around,

[Space "between" the X's, creates the O without you having to do anything to make the O st. how lucky is that]

if making the X st scares you, you can still make the hat only using 1 dc of different color in each st instead of making the X st.

Row 3: ch 3, 1 dc in same st as joining, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, *Repeat around, join in top of ch 3

Row 4: ch 3, *1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. * Repeat around, join in top of ch 3

Row 5: H hook - ch 3, 1 dc in each st around, join & fasten off

Row 6: I hook with new color - Join with sl st, ch 2, **sk 1 sts, 1 dc in next st, next dc *{go around back of st just made & into the front of prev. st making 1 dc} X st just made ** repeat around, join to top of ch 2

Rows 7-8: Repeat row 6, after ending row 8, finish off

Rows 9-12: join with sl st, ch 3, 1 dc in each st around. Repeat around, join to top of ch 3,

Row 13: H hook - 1 hdc -or- 1 sc around in each st, join & fasten off- tuck in tails

Adult Hat & Scarf Set crochet - Q-Family

Personal Note:
When making for Ron Sr. I use a J hook, and add 1 extra row of increase (row 6) before following pattern as he doesn't like anything snug on his head...JMSQ

This is another of my old (1989/90) patterns. It's truly easy and works up quickly.

Materials:

I Hook

SPECIAL STITCHES: {For Brim} FPHDC & BPHDC

These stitches are done with hdc, by working around the post of each stitch in the row below. Here's how:

Front Post Stitch: yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a hdc (half double crochet).

And the back post stitch is just an opposite of that ...

Back Post Stitch: yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back around post of st in row below; complete as a hdc.
Directions:

Ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring

Row 1) ch 2, work 11 hdc in ring (12 hdc)

Row 2) ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around (24 hdc)

Row 3) Ch 2, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st *Repeat Around (36 hdc)

Row 4) ch 2, * hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st. *Repeat around (48 hdc)

Row 5) ch 2, * hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st. *repeat around. (60 hdc )

Row 6) ch 2, * hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st. * Repeat around. (72 hdc)

{If your count is different then 72 sts, continue with increase until you have 72 sts}

Row 7 - 19) ch 2, hdc in each st around, attach to top of ch 2. Do NOT Fasten off after Row 19


Rib BRIM:

Row 20: ch 2, {fphdc in next st, bphdc in next) around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2.

Rows 21-25) Repeat row 20. At end of Row 25, fasten off.
NOTE:

I change colors for a different colored brim after row 17 and then continue with pattern as written above.

For larger hats, use larger hook, for wider brim, add a few extra rows of Row 20, for smaller hat use smaller hood



SCARF PATTERN:

H hook:
Row 1:) ch 22, 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each st across, (21 sts)

Row 2:) ch 2, turn, 1 dc in each st across,(21 sts)

Row 3-105:) *Repeat row 2 for a total of 105 rows, finish off

Add fringe and tuck in tails

Personal NOTE: I work a different color for the first 5 rows, and again for the last 5 rows to make it special; when making for someone special I always use their favorite colors, and again for the fringe...

Pebble Pouch crochet - Mom & Dad Q

Uses for your Pebble Pouch:

You may want to use this pouch to send pebbles to your exchange partner. (If using as a pebble pouch, please write on each pebble your name & cite where pebble was found) When sending pebbles, please wrap pebble in tissue paper before inserting into pouch so it doesn't pull or stretch the pouch

You may want to add a crocheted heart, pocket pet, angel, or perhaps a "Get Well" message or note in your Pebble Pouch. Your tag (with your name & e-mail) can also be placed in the pouch folded in half when using for exchanges. The list goes on and on, these few were mentioned to give you some nice ideas & ways to share your love.

Whatever way you decide to use this Pebble Pouch, either for sharing pebbles, sharing small love gifts, or thinking of you gifts, enjoy and have fun... God Bless

F Hook- Small {2 1/4" x 2 1/4"}
