Sept. Blog E-Letter

Sept. has been a busy & Blessed month for Ron & I. We celebrated out 39th annivsary on the 10th of this month. How the years have flown by. We are Blessed with 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and now were by ourselves again (excupt for our 2 dogs) enjoying life and checking out this awesome country we live in.

Fall is beginning to peek it's head into our lives and souroundings. I can see the tree's thinning out, and some leaves taken on the fall colors. We were sitting on our deck last evening and noticed that the shrubs are thinning out already. Maybe we should prune them now before winter hits. Who knows,

Temp. have cooled off here in the Beautiful Ozarks. We've been able to turn off our air conditioner and open the doors & windows. How nice to have fresh air in our home again. The nights are cooled down as well. In fact we put a light blanket on our bed because it's gotten cool now. I see it's pre-dected to go into the high 30's & 40's durning the evening for the next week.

Ron's daliah's are blooming strong and looking great. I see I have new Job's tear seeds again, that will need picked before long. I bought some new "Purple" Crocus bulbs that I need to get planted. I love seeing the crocus pop through the snow to let us know spring is in the air. We have a garden full of yellow crocus  & a "few" purple already,  but I need lots of purple as it's my favorite color & besides why not.

I have been busy crocheting hats for children in Headstart. I've decided to start making them for the children (low-income) in our much needed school here in Harrison. We have an elementary school where most of the really needy children seem to go and they need some love and care as well, so thats my goal to make hats for these children who will gladly take our gift of love and donation.
Headstart (here in Harrison) wants you to sign a paper saying your donation is worth no more then $25.- and I can't lie, I have over $80.- invested in the yarn alone each year not to mention my time and energy, and anyhow It's a donation, Love-Gift FREELY GIVEN to the children with NO CHARGE whats so ever, so why do they need to make it difficult for me the giver. it's NOT like  this is community service or court ordered, the hats are made because I have been Blessed with the talent of knitting & crocheting and I just want to Bless others that are less fortunite with some love and warmth. Mother has a bundle of gloves for the children as well so this will be a great box of love to share.

It is our (Ron & I) Prayer that you are enjoying your fall weather and souroundings as well. May God Hold you in the palm of His Hand and keep you safe & healthy until we meet / chat again next month.. Blessings Ron & Jean

Buttermilk fudge

                                                     Buttermilk Fudge



Ingredients:

2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup butter

1 tablespoon corn syrup

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped nuts, if you like nuts it really enhancing Pecans are my favorite


Directions:Prep Time: 15 mins

Total Time: 1 1/4 hr



1 Butter sides of a large heavy saucepan or Dutch oven.

2 Combine first 5 ingredients in pan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until butter milts and sugar dissolves.

3 Using a pastry brush dipped in hot water, wash down and sugar crystals on side of pan.

4 attach candy thermometer to pan, making sure thermometer dose not touch bottom of pan.

5 Increase heat to medium and bring to a boil. Do not stir while syrup is boiling.

6 Continue t cook until syrup reaches softball stage (Approximately 234 to 240 degrees).

7 Test about ½-teaspoon syrup in ice water. Syrup should easily form a ball in ice water but flatten when held in your hand.

8 Remove form heat: add vanilla. DO NOT STIR until syrup cools to approximately 200 degrees.

9 Using a medium speed of an electric mixer, beat fudge until thickened and no longer glossy.

10 Stir in nuts.

11 Pour into a buttered 8- inch square pan. Cool completely.

12 Cut into 1-inch squares.

13 Store in an airtight container in refrigerator.

Wonderful Memories

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS:


'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?'

'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him.

'All the food was slow.'

'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?'

'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained. !

'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'


By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.

But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it :

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis, never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card.

In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck.

Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died.

My parents never drove me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow)

We didn't have a television in our house until I was 19.

It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. And there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people.

I was 21 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.'

When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had..

I never had a telephone in my room.

The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers --my brother delivered a newspaper, six days a week. It cost 7 cents a paper, of which he got to keep 2 cents. He had to get up at 6AM every morning.

On Saturday, he had to collect the 42 cents from his customers. His favorite customers were the ones who gave him 50 cents and told him to keep the change. His least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day.

Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive.
If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.


Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?


MEMORIES from a friend :
My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea.. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

How many do you remember?

Head lights dimmer switches on the floor.

Ignition switches on the dashboard.

Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall.

Real ice boxes.

Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.

Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner.

Using hand signals for cars without turn signals.

My Dogs;

This morning I went to sign my Dogs up for welfare. At first the lady said, "Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare". So I explained to her that my Dogs are mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, can't speak English and have no clue who their daddies are. They expect me to feed them, provide them with housing and medical care.

So, she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify.

My Dogs get their first checks on Friday.

Isn't this is a great country!

THE SILENT SERMON

THE SILENT SERMON


This is very up lifting! It blessed me today, I am sure you too will be blessed.

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him.



It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.



The pastor made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.



The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.



Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The pastor glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.



As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the firey sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday'.



We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken.



The Lord is my Shepherd ----- that's a Relationship!



I shall not want ----- that's Supply!



He maketh me to lie down in green pastures ----that's Rest!



He leadeth me beside the still waters -----that'sRefreshment!



He restoreth my soul ----- that's Healing!



He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness --that's Guidance!



For His name sake ----- that's Purpose!



Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death--that's Testing!



I will fear no evil ----- that's Protection!



For Thou art with me ----- that's Faithfulness!



Thy rod and Thy staff comfort me -----that'sDiscipline!



Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies------that's Hope!



Thou annointest my head with oil ----- that'sConsecration!



My cup runneth over ----- that's Abundance!



Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life----that's Blessing!



And I will dwell in the house of the Lord -----that'sSecurity!



Forever ----- that's Eternity!

Mom's Lipstick Plant

Stacy (my Sister) bought this plant for Mom, now look closely at the flowers on the bottom, they actually look like a tube's of lipstick.

Now isn't this plant just the coolest with it's display of lipstick blooms on the bottom.

Mexican Pork (Crock-Pot) Recipe

Mexican Pork


1 lb pork boneless loin roast Cut into 1” pieces

1 (20 oz) jar salsa

1 (4 oz) can green chilies, drained

1 (15 oz) canned black beans, Rinsed and drained

1 c. Monterey Jack cheese

Mix pork, salsa, and chilies in 3 ½ to 4 quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat 6-8 hours or until pork is tender. Stir in beans. Cover and cook 5 mins or until hot. Sprinkle with cheese.

Yield: 6 servings= 274 cals, 14g fat, 6g fiber, 17g carb, 21g protein, 764mg sodium, 54mg chol

Look Around You

A very special teacher in high school many years ago had a husband who unexpectedly died suddenly of a heart attack. About a week after his death, she shared some of her insight with a classroom of students. As the late afternoon sunlight came streaming in through the classroom windows and the class was nearly over, she moved a few things aside on the edge of her desk and sat down there.


With a gentle look of reflection on her face, she paused and said, "Before class is over, I would like to share with all of you a thought that is unrelated to class, but which I feel is very important. Each of us is put here on earth to learn, share, love, appreciate and give of ourselves... and none of us knows when this fantastic experience will end. It can be taken away at any moment. Perhaps this is God's way of telling us that we must make the most out of every single day."




Her eyes beginning to water, she went on, "So I would like you all to make me a promise... from now on, on your way to school, or on your way home, find something beautiful to notice. It doesn't have to be something you see - it could be a scent - perhaps of freshly baked bread wafting out of someone's house, or it could be the sound of the breeze slightly rustling the leaves in the trees, or the way the morning light catches one autumn leaf as it falls gently to the ground. Please, look for these things, and cherish them.


For, although it may sound trite to some, these things are the "stuff" of life. The little things we are put here on earth to enjoy. The things we often take for granted. We must make it important to notice them, for at any time ... it can all be taken away."




The class was completely quiet. We all picked up our books and filed out of the room silently. That afternoon, I noticed more things on my way home from school than I had that whole semester. Every once in a while, I think of that teacher and remember what an impression she made on all of us, and I try to appreciate all of those things that sometimes we all overlook.

Take notice of something special you see on your lunch hour today. Go barefoot. Or walk on the beach at sunset. Stop off on the way home tonight to get a double dip ice cream cone. For as we get older, it is not the things we did that we often regret, but the things we didn't do.

America's largest seafood restaurant chain and you get a basket of some of the planet's tastiest garlic cheese biscuits served up on the side. For many years this recipe has been the most-searched-for clone recipe on the Internet, according to Red Lobster. As a result, several versions are floating around, including one that was at one time printed right in the box of a baking mix.

The problem with making biscuits using a baking mix is that if you follow the directions from the box you don't end up with a very fluffy or flakey finished product, since most of the fat in the recipe comes from the shortening that's included in the mix.

On its own, room temperature shortening does a poor job creating the light, airy texture you want from good biscuits, and it contributes little in the way of flavor. So, we'll invite some cold butter along on the trip-with grated cheddar cheese and a little garlic powder. Now you'll be well on your way to delicious Cheddar Bay. Wherever that is.
Ingredients:

2 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix

¾ cup cold whole milk

4 tablespoons cold butter (1/2 stick)

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

1 heaping cup grated cheddar cheese


Bush on Top:

2 tablespoons butter, melted

¼ teaspoon dried parsley flakes

½ teaspoon garlic powder

pinch salt



Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

2. Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork. You don't want to mix too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter in there that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and ¼ teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combined, but don't over mix.

3. Drop approximately ¼-cup portions of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet using an ice cream scoop.

4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.

5. When you take the biscuits out of the oven, melt 2 tablespoons butter is a small bowl in your microwave. Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder and the dried parsley flakes. Use a brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter. Makes one dozen biscuits.

The American Flag should be made in AMERICAN factory's, employed by AMERICAN  citizens, displayed by our AMERICAN GOVERMENT, AMERICAN business, & Homes & Schools.

All flags in Wal-mart are made in China. Shame on them!!! We as AMERICAN should REFUSE to buy anything that is not made in AMERICA

1.Though our names and ages vary, yet no title’s necessary,

Old maid, young maid, single ladies—no such titles in God’s Word.

Yet there is a title given when a maiden walks with God,

The exalted high position of a Handmaid of the Lord.

Such an honor, such a calling for His humble handmaid fair,

Let me cherish every moment He’s entrusted to my care.

I His handmaid give to Him my heart’s devotion full and free,

Working only for His glory, in His service let me be.

Be it therefore to Thine handmaid, Lord according to Thy Word,

Let Thy servant wash the feet of the servants of my Lord.

Today is our 39th Annivsary

I awoke to these Beautiful Flowers sitting in front of the computer this morning. My Beloved Ron bought them for me in celebration of our 39th Annivsary Today.

Were going out tomorrow night to celebrate, dinner at the Red-Lobster and then we'll see what the Lord has in mind for us while were over in Branson

Years ago when our children were in Jr. High School {In Calif.}, I remember our Daughter Rhonda saying, you two are the only ones still married to eachother. All my friends parents have divorced and either are re-married or living with their other's.

In High School Rhonda said maybe 3 families still had the original parents married to eachother and the rest were re-married or living with their other.

We moved to Harrison Arkansas "Ozarks" {Bible Belt}  in 2001. Most of the couples are married to their original spouces. To see others married for 35 yrs, 40 years, 45 yrs, 50 & 60  yrs is Not Un-Common here..

YES there are many here divorced, re-married, living together etc. but Most Couples who have gotten married are still together. Do I contrubute it to living in the BIBLE Belt, YES I do, When you Walk in God's Word, You live as God wants, and thus a Happy Marriage, Home, Family, Life

I have been Blessed to be Married to my Precious Ron for 39 yrs today.
Ron is my Gift from God, My Best Friend, Father of our Children, Grandfather to our Grandchildren. I am so BLESSED to have Ron as my Husband & Partner in life.  We have been through many trials together in our lives, There is NO ONE I would have rather walked through these trials with other then Ron, He's my Rock, Thank You Ron for 39 Wonderful Years together.

          As Ron would say, 39 down & a lifetime to go.

   Happy Annivsary My PRECIOUS Ron, I So LOVE YOU!!!

Labor Day

Today is Labor Day,  Last day of summer vacation and on to Fall & Winter happenings.

Ron is going to BBQ tonight, He's cooking hot dogs (more about hot dogs later), Potato Salad, Beans & chips. This is our yearly dose of hot dogs, and believe me when I say once a year is enough for this girl.

NOW on to the hot dogs. There was a time when you went into the market to buy hot dogs. Thats what you found was a couple brands of hot dogs. You picked one and were on your way.. Not today...
I buy Oscar Meyer brand if I'm not buying Hebrewnational 100% beef hot dogs.  Today at our local Wal-mart they did NOT have 2 kinds of Oscar Meyer hot dogs (beef & regular), No they had Turkey, Beef, regular with turkey, chicken & pork,  with nitrats or not with nitrats, with cheese, no cheese, jalapinos or not jalapinos, 8 pack or 10 pack. Mind you I didn't plan on going to the libuary, but in order to buy a single pack of hot dogs, I spendt 15 minutes going through these awful things just to find a simple pack of 10 hot dogs. Oh each had their own price as well, 8 packs that were NOT cooked  & were more then the rest. HAAA lets get this, I have to pay more for less and then cook them, did someone say duhhhhh.
Next year, NO hot dogs, I'll be BBQ'ing chicken where I can grab some (without water solution added)  and go home and cook it, and yes, Ron will be thrilled I'll even make my own potato salad... YUMMY

Spirit of Winter

Once again the beautiful spirit is called upon to complete the cycle of nature by creating a winter wonderland. As she moves across the landscape adorning trees and plants with their winter dressing she helps an eager assistant to paint leaves with frost. Children play in the snow and ice, blissfully unaware of the miracle that is unfolding before them. When her work is complete she will move on making room for the spirit of Spring to follow in her icy wake.

Eureka Springs (Arkansas) was founded because of the popularity of its healing waters, which had been held sacred for many years by the Native Americans. With the growth of the town, the springs were covered, enclosed, forced through pipes, and polluted. In recent times, the townspeople have been doing a lot to bring back the health and beauty of the springs. Now there are lovely gardens and walkways. Groups of well-wishers visit, bringing crystals and chants to call back the power. My paintings in this series have the intention of revitalizing the waters. I mix sacred water from Lourdes into the paint to carry a high vibration onward to the viewer and back to the water.

Murph's Head-Start Hat (Crochet)

So I made this up today while I awaited for news about Murph's surgery. It is a quick and easy hat to make, and the kiddo's will love it for sure & for certain.

I or J hook    These will fit children between 3-5 yrs of age.  (Do NOT Turn)

Row 1: ch 4, join, ch 3, work 11 dc in hook, join (12 sts)

Row 2; ch 3, * 1 dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each st around, *Repeat around, join (24 sts)

Row 3: ch 3, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, *around, join (36 sts)

Row 4: ch 3, 1 dc in each of next st, 2 dc in next st, *1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. *Repeat around, Join (48 sts)

Row 5:  ch 3, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st., *1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. *Repeat around. Join (60 sts)

Row 6 -9: ch 4, *skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1. *Repeat around, Join, sl into ch 1 space, ch 4, repeat for a total of 4 rows

Row 10-12: 1 sc in each st around. finish off and tuck in tail

Murphy - Surgery day

Murph Man is looking pretty good after his big surgery today. He had the growth removed from his hind quarters, he had a seed growth removed from his rib, and he had 4 teeth pulled. Dr Joe said the growth is not cancer just ugly, We can live with that..♥ ♥ ♥

I also created a new hat pattern for the children in Head-Start today while awating the news about Murphy. Will have to make time to post it as well

NEW - Purple Pots, Pans & Silverware

Look what My Precious Mom bought for us, Purple Pots & Pans Plus matching Silverware. The silver on the handle just before the actual metal piece looks like a CREST. Awesome set. I am so excited.. Love Purple so much and when Mom saw these in a catalog she surprised us with them... Thanks Mom, I Love You SOOOOO Much!!!!

Koffee Time - Dolls & A Snake


I can't believe it's already Sept. 1, 2010. How fast this year has flown by. Sept. means fall is just about to come upon us, How blessed this time of year is. I so love the colors of all the tree's, like a quilters pattern waiting to be placed into that special quilt.

It's also raining here in Harrison. It's ben so dry here, this rain is most welcome to all our community.

Enjoyed not 1 but 2 visits from our Granddaughter JesseAnne this afternoon between classes at the college. I so love she just drops by for a visit and some Grandma hugs. We are so BLESSED.

                                       {3 Cabbage Patch Dolls}

Went into the NARMC Thrift store this morning while I was out running some errands, and not only found  several Cabbage Patch dolls, but I actually bought 3 of them each for $3.00. I tossed them into the washer and they are sitting on the dryer to dry. Then I will make them some clothes. Lace dress'es & bonnets. They are lovely and a good size for making baby clothes.

We also have our "PERFECT" Grandson. He sit's on the bed in the spare bedroom. He has such Precious smile, no diapers to change, no feedings, no crying, no temper tantrums, no demanding to be rocked or held. Nope, I also bought him in a thrift store, but haven't come up with that "perfect" name for him yet.. Any idea's?

Monday 8/30/10 evening, I was looking out the screen door out onto our deck when I saw a gentle movement out of the  corner of my left eye. I turned to the left and saw nothing, I started to turn away and saw a moment again, I turned and just stared into our handing flower pot which hangs behind Ron's BBQ & under the Wisteria Vine which is on a full trellis. Movement again, outside I went. I said Ron you better come out here, we have a snake in our hanging planter. Sure enough it was not a baby snake, but it was a young snake, not agressive at all, maybe a garden snake or something like that. Anyhow Ron moved it off the planter and down on the ground with the handle of the fly swater. Now everytime we go out on the deck, we look see if there might be another. Hea, that snake slithered up HIGH into that planter, and I sure didn't want it on our deck.. yuk my bare feet and night-fall, Oh My oh my
